Member Event: How to Survive GDRP – Seminar on Data Protection

We all need to understand and embrace Data Protection. This will be all the more important with the coming into force of the new European-wide data protection regime, the GDPR, in May 2018.

Data Protection affects all businesses – irrespective of size or sector. It covers everything we do with the vast amount of personal detail our businesses hold. This includes how we store it and how we communicate with the individuals identified by the data.

The legislation already covers many day-to-day transactions in the workplace but the GDPR regime significantly adds to the demands we have to meet. It also increases the penalties if we are in breach. Accordingly we all have to review our approach to handling Personal Data to ensure our businesses can meet these new demands.

This is not just an HR issue, although we all hold significant and sensitive information about our employees. It is not just an IT issue, although we will need to be confident in both our cyber-security and how we store information. We will all need to change our approach to personal data.

Data Protection is not a user-friendly subject. Fortunately we are joined by Kirk Tudhope of Ledingham Chalmers solicitors. Kirk will translate the main obligations into plain English and explain how the regime works in practice so we will have the tools to protect our business.

12.30 Registration, buffet lunch

implement the steps which should be taken now to protect our businesses.
