New Lochaber Food initiative from Lochaber Environmental Group

New initiative to celebrate and promote local food and drink

Lochaber Environmental Group has just been awarded funding from the Local Connect Regional Food Fund which seeks to celebrate and promote locally produced food and drink throughout Scotland.

LEG’s ‘Lochaber Food’ initiative aims to stimulate the production and consumption of local food in the region by encouraging partnerships between residents, restaurants, retailers and local producers who are encouraged to employ sustainable traditional crofting practices and grow food using organic principles.

The aim is to build a robust, sustainable and collaborative local food market where the provenance of the produce is clear, the food miles are low and the consumer develops and appreciation of what is in season.

Adam Veitch, a local crofter and sour dough baker said;

It is really exciting to be involved in the initiative. Lochaber Food will allow producers to support each other and enable consumers to access food that’s been grown locally.

Events will take place throughout 2019. In the first instance, local producers and those who would like to be producers (however small) are encouraged to get in touch and let LEG know what they do and what they aspire to do if there was a better connected market.  For more information email
