International Trade Mission to Nova Scotia

23rd – 27th Jun

Expand Your International Trade Horizons

Lochaber Chamber of Commerce is leading a delegation to Nova Scotia for businesses interested in exploring business opportunities in Canada to expand their International trade activity.

This trade mission will help your business explore international trade opportunities in the province of Nova Scotia, reaching out across the bustling capital city of Halifax and to key locations and  beyond.

Canada is the second-largest country in the world and has the world’s ninth-largest economy. It is also a member of the G7 group of the seven largest IMF-advanced economies in the world.

Canada’s economic freedom score is 76.6, making its economy the 15th freest in the 2022 Index.  Canada is ranked 1st among 32 countries in the Americas region, and its overall score is above the regional and world averages.

Halifax is the Capital City of Nova Scotia and the population increased by more than 20,000 people in 2022. The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) saw a 4.4 per cent growth in population in 2022, bringing the city’s total population to more than 480,000.

Halifax is the gateway to Atlantic Canada and enjoys fantastic trade links to the UK through its bustling port.

There are extensive historical ties between the UK and Canada.

Canada has similar business and legal practices to the UK with a strong business and consumer base and is a good starting point for entering the North American market as well as the wider American markets.

Nova Scotia offers many opportunities for Scottish businesses in the following sectors and many more:

  • Retail
  • Food and Drink
  • Ocean Technologies
  • Cultural Heritage and Arts Sector
  • Aquaculture
  • Agriculture
  • Forestry
  • Offshore Wind
  • Digital Health Care Solutions

Doing business with Canada

Canada offers a stable economic environment with established trade links to the UK and its compatible time zone (GMT +4 hours) makes business communication simple. Canada has similar business and legal practices to the UK with a strong business and consumer base.

What is involved?

As part of this trade mission delegates will receive market briefings on key opportunities in Nova Scotia, a networking event with business organisations in Halifax; and one-to-one business meetings with potential clients or trade partners in Nova Scotia, based on your company requirements.  This is a fantastic opportunity to dip your toe in the water at a relatively low cost.  We arrange meetings and special events, you pay the cost of your own travel, accommodation, and some food (probably around £1,800).

To secure your place on the mission we would also require a non-refundable deposit of £350 plus VAT.
